The mission of the Halls High School Library is to promote literacy in all its forms, foster a love of reading, and empower life-long learners who are dedicated to excellence.
The Halls Library is open Monday–Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Students can check out up to 20 books at a time, and there are no late fees. With a collection of more than 8,000 print books, there’s something for every reader!

Brandi Hartsell
School Librarian
Brandi Hartsell is the school librarian at Halls High School in Knoxville, TN, with more than 15 years of experience in education. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Tennessee Technological University, a Master of Arts in Counseling from East Tennessee State University, and a Master of Education in Educational Media and Educational Technology from ETSU. Brandi is certified as a PreK-12 school counselor and a K-12 library media specialist. She has been recognized as Halls High Teacher of the Year (2021) and is a two-time recipient of the Tennesssee Association of School Librarian Teacher Collborator Award (2019, 2021).
Since 2016, Brandi has designed and implemented innovative library programming that engages students in critical thinking, media literacy, and ethical reflection. Her initiatives include a true crime genre course, as well as broader programs that inspire research skills, analytical thinking, and a lifelong love of reading.
Brandi's philosophy centers on creating a library where every student feels seen, heard, and empowered to explore. She believes in the transformative power of stories to build empathy, spark curiosity, and develop independent thinking. Committed to inclusion, intellectual freedom, and meaningful learning experiences, Brandi approaches her work with energy, care, and dedication-making the library not just a space for books, but a place where students grow, connect, and discover their potential.
